possibly on the security subject.
I was having problems with a windows based laptop connected to here at home on my router. Netscape 4.7 was crashing, a lot. So I did 2 things, I updated windows, and I got netscape 6.1.
Now we are behind what is supposed to be a hardware firewall. The email that was used and downloaded in netscape 6.1 dissapeared. The inbox was emptied of over 800 messages. trash still had it's origional contents, sent, drafts all were fine too.
On my pc I was in Linux connected to a ftp site. Locally owned, and not commercial.
Did I provide a gateway for someone to hack the laptop? Or is this something else?
It was totally locked up when we went to touch it (it sat for a few hours) and not one but 2 reboots were necessary to get working.
I did an updated virus scan yesterday as well. |

if you can ftp out than it has to open a port(or even two with ftp) so in principle you can go through but i think it is more likely a virus |

Than you have to open port 113 in your firewall. Don't know if you can do in Bastille but editing the configuration script isn't difficult(it is in /etc/Bastille/ |
