|
I've been looking at the ThermalRight SI-97 heat pipe heatsink (~$35) that was mentioned on the front page.
I got mine at SVC since the Heatsink Factory didn't have them in stock at the time. Now it's the reverse...except the Heatsink Factory won't be shipping until after Nov 14th cause he's getting married and going off on their honeymoon.
I'm going to combine the heatsink with the Thermaltake 92mm ultra silent high volume fan (52.24CFM, 12V, Noise: 21 dBA) which should prove to be a super quiet and powerful solution. I should get the fan sometime this week...as this was the best price I could find fer product and shipping. I also snagged the little 80mm brother version, too!
Hopefully this will prove to be a good combination... |

It's tough to beat a Panaflo-M for a reasonable combination of lots of air flow with only a small amount of noise. |

Actually I was lust going to ask what poeple would recommend, Tx.
My 80mm Vantec stealth fans seem of very high quality but resonate my case quite loudly when run at 12 volts. When they are not in my case, they seem fairly quiet though I have not measured. I'll probably just get a fan controller so I can run them at something other than 5V or 12V |

I think I'll like the ThermalTake silent fan vs the previous silent king of the hill fer cfm/noise ratio...
It should be in my hands some time within the week or so... |

Well...all the parts are in...
I replaced the desktop Barton XP2500+ with a mobile Barton XP2500+, installed the ThermalRight SI-97 heat pipe heatsink, Artic Silver 5 thermal grease, and the ThermalTake Combo Cool DIY Series - A2013 92mm fan on top.
Previous CPU speed: 2200MHz
Previous CPU temp: 120°F (core sensor) under 100% load
Previous FSB: 200MHz
Current CPU speed: 2400MHz
Current CPU temp: 100°F (core sensor) under 100% load
Current FSB: 200MHz
The noise level is much, much lower.
It's faster.
It's cooler.
I say it's a good keeper... |

Good to know Bam when I upgrade to an AMD hopefully soon, I'm also trying to get my cousin to buy the AMD64 4000+, he wants the top of the line but not waste the money on an FX55.
He doesn't overclock so we have to go higher in processors hehe |

Yes...it's good to know me!
I'm gonna eventually see how far I can push it with this setup...I'm thinking that I'll need a BIOS update or even some new memory... |

Fergot to mention that the SI-97 was a pain to install with the mobo in the case. I would suggest some tape to keep the clip in place when yer installing it because the clip has a tendency to pop/fall off when yer trying to get it aligned.
I had to struggle fer a bit without chipping the core getting that sucker on there. And they recommend that you remove the SI-97 if yer transporting yer comp... |

I've noticed that in the past week or so that the SI-97 has a tendency to rotate as the clip really doesn't keep it solidly in place.
Guess I'm gonna have to make a special bracket to keep the heatsink in place... |

how is the fan, quiet or loud, does it do what it claims or does it just bust? |

The 92mm fan is super quiet and strong output! It lives up to it's claim. At 21dB and 52CFM...it's great!!
I hear the drives spinning more than I hear the 92mm...
The 80mm version does just as well...quiet fer the amount of air it moves.
If yer thinking about mounting it fer a case fan, you might need some special brackets or mounting plate... |

Shouldn't matter as long as it doesn't rotate off - w f! |

Well...after traveling around with this setup, I can say that it doesn't do very well fer traveling. Since it shifts, the thermal grease is worked out between the CPU core and the heatsink.
If yer comp is gonna stay at home and won't be traveling around, then this is a great setup fer you.
I'm gonna swap this back out fer the Thermalright SLK-900a and see if I can find my 92mm holders fer that HSF...it should do better fer traveling... |

Here's hoping they come out with a "traveling" version soon - thinking about putting the SLK-947-U on the P4 (the stock Intel HSF suxors big time) - w f! |
