How about a 16-team format over four weeks with the first round at the home campus of the higher-seeded team?
The argument about missing school for games doesn't really apply, since NCAA basketball teams play two or more games a week during this period. |

Back in my younger days... no one gave a rat about us missing Friday classes to travel for football games.
One buss trip was annoyingly long and we got to miss 2 days.
Ahh..the glory of Ncaa Div 3 football.
I still dont want a playoff in Div 1.... but, if you're going to do it.. send the 16 teams through the currnet bowls. The higher ranked teams get to be in bowls closest to their schools. |

That would be a couple of extra games for teams, but I doubt they would care.
It's a good idea, but theres a lot that the higher ups must not like about it. |
