Well my computer seems to suck all the dust in the room into it's two intake fans, and I want to put a stop to it. The obvious solution is fan filters, but ... how much do they decrease the performance of the fan? Are they worth it? |

Worth it?
How easy is it to clean yer HSF out?
How much overclocking do you do?
Simple filters can do wonders...but cleaning the area up near yer comp will be a big part to keeping yer comp clean.
I use the Scotchbrite pads...they're cheap and pass enough air through them. They even come in neat colors...  |

Good idea, I am going to try that. The Lian-li ones I use now let dust right through. I has also been suggested to me to try automotive HVAC filters and cut them to shape. I'm told they flow well, and YES they are worth it. |

Scotchbrite pads, eh? Where can I get those? I was looking at some $4 / filter ones at www.coolerguys.com... I'm sure FrozenCPU also has them.
I need two filters, and I only have $10, so the cheaper the better - but they should work.  |

What size are you looking fer? Try the grocery stores in the soap/scrubbing section...

Home Depot should have the super big size...
I have 2 80MM intake fans ... I'll look at Albertsons if my dad'll take me here in the next day or two. |

Well it turns our that my mom already had a bunch of scotchbrite pads, from which I cut out four 95mm x 95 mm squares, two of which I took and attached to my intake fans (with duct tape, of course  ).
Working good so far, temps didn't go up at all (they actually went lower, probobly because I cleaned the dust out of there...). 
And Bam: How often do you clean / change your pads?  |
