So I turned on file sharing and web sharing (in *nix terms: httpd and ftpd). Everything works fine except whenever I upload a file through FTP, the permissions aren't properly set.

I'm trying to upload pictures of my 3D renders, then post them in my phpBB that I run internally. Whatever user account that apache is running as, it's not allowed to access the files in my ftp default drop.

I did try going in and changing permissions on the folder itself so that any user can access it, but new files put in that folder do not inherit those permissions. I have to manually change the file permissions in Finder.

Any ideas how I can resolve this? Is it something I have to do in OSX, or is it the way my FTP program (running on Windows) is putting these files into the OSX destination? I'm using Panther on an iBook BTW.

Stupid question. Is your folder in the Public folder? Apply to enclosed items didn't work? (on the main folder)

I had that problem before also, I had to change ownership on the folder from system to the user. It seemed to work ok after that.

Yes my folder is in the "Public" folder, and yes I've changed the folder's ownership and permissions to my user account. I think the problem is my web server process runs in neither "System" nor my user account. I believe there's a Unix user account "apache" that it runs in.
