I always fancied having a Mac and the iMacs are such sexy little things. When I heard that EdisonRex had a few floating around I bought one off him.

I've just spent the afternoon having a fiddle and getting used to the mouse (where is my right mouse button??? argh).

It has an in built AirPort wireless device which is useful because I have a 802.11g wireless network.

I had a play with AirPort but it could not detect the wireless network. Is there some patch, special configuration option or driver to enable my AirPort device to connect to my network?

I can set the Mac up to be a AirPort base station which I can connect to via my wireless card on my notebook.

Its a 400mhz Power PC G3
128mb RAM
9.5gb HDD

My wireless network is 802.11g with 128bit WEP encyrption

If it's an "Apple Airport" card in there then it's an 802.11b device. Does your current wireless base station support both b and g?

Its a 54Mbps Access Point and on its specification page it says

Quote:
Standards Conformance: Wi-Fi 802.11b & WPA certified, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g

So yeah, I would assume that it can cope with 802.11b users.

I know that on some routers you have to patch the firmware to get them to recognize and Air Port. Linksys in particular was like this with their older routers. You might wanna search around on the 3com site and see if they have a patch or something for it.
