Scott Wasson wrote:The new Athlon 64 models are faster overall than anything Intel has to offer, and their gaming performance is particularly strong. As a wave of highly-anticipated new games has hit the market over the past few months, AMD's lead in gaming performance has grown even more pronounced.... For gamers, though, the choice is simple: get an Athlon 64, and don't look back. Sure, the Athlon64 FX-55 looks sexy, but look at the performance of the reasonably-priced 90nm Athlon64 3000+ and 3500+. |

I want my dual cores now! And they better not charge me an extra software license! Damn Mental Image.
EDIT:
Um, even id says Doom3 will run better on AMD64. On die memory controller, tons of bandwidth... but Intel is also starting to do the same thing and still fall short. So yeah, in so many words, AMD is better. |

Well...this is Microsoft's stance on dual cores... |

Those dualies looks pretty good.
I am happy with my A64 3200 for now, but it looks as if the dual cores are the future of desktop processing. |

Yeah I heard about MS's announcement. I don't care. I'm more concerned with software like Mental Ray that charges per CPU. It's a rendering engine, one where more CPU = faster renderes, but it costs. |

Is it just me or is that an absolutely ridiculous license scheme to follow? |

Licensing per CPU is quite common among server apps. For once Microsoft actually makes sense there. Continue to license per CPU regardless of cores per CPU. |

YES!!!!11!1!1! I was hoping this was going to happen soon! The Fx-55, Nforce4, Imagine! And this coming from a long time Intel buyer. Come on Intel, you got a lot of catching up to do.
Yet look here, I wouln't say the FX-55 is as far ahead as some would have you bileve. There are other things than OpenGl and DirectX benchmarks too, however none listed there are dramatically far apart. |
