While shopping at SVC this evening, I came across an ingenious method fer getting cool air directly to yer CPU

This kit going fer $16 plus shipping allows you to snorkel fresh cool air directly to yer HSF setup. This also prevents any warm backwash air to re-enter yer HSF. This is the most common effect with high speed or high volume fans...they end up picking up hot backwash and sucking it back into the HSF.

Might seem kinda pricey and you might be able to do the same thing with a 3" aluminum vent hose... Wink Smile

According to the manufacturer's graph, you can lower yer temps about 15°F... Big Smile

also a problem with hawker harriers. they suck in hot exhaust gas from their engines while trying to land vertically. this gas dosn't have much oxygen to burn of course and so the engines lose power and land pretty heavily. if only they could fix their problems with a $16 kit Smile

I don't see how that would work...It's just air coming in from outside...whats that going to do?

works like your drier vent. Rather than letting the air blow around the inside of the case before being used to cool your cpu. It routes the air first to the cpu then to the rest of the case.

If you do it best to toss in another fan just for the case.

Okay...here's an analogy fer yah:

Let's lock you up in a semi-full small closet with a small vent fan at the top.
Let's have you run and jump inside the closet so yer body temp rises.
The air in the closet starts to warm up and get kinda stuffy.
You start sucking in the warm air.
You notice it's getting hard to breathe.
We have you really work hard inside the closet now.
You start to complain about it getting too hot in there and want to come out and get some fresh air.
You pass out.
We pull you out and let you cool down and come around.
We put you back in the closet to start the process all over again but this time with a fresh air snorkel fer you to breathe with.

Hello DIYer's can of spray paint and a trip to either lowes or home depot and you'll save.

Interesting idea.

Could be moded to work with water cooling too.

Not quite...

Includes:

* Coil x1
* 80mm Fan connectors x3
* 80mm Fan filter x1
* Hose clamps x2
* Fan screws x4
* Washers x4

The fan connectors will allow a good seal from the hose to the fan. You can DIY without them but it will look kinda ghetto and you might not get a good seal. Wink Smile

Sure you'll save some money if you build the entire kit yerself...and you MIGHT find all the parts...but like any kit it's already put together so all you have to do is just install it. Big Smile

So that's what yer paying extra fer... Wink Smile

I like the short setup they have (picture posted) but I would probably add an intake hose to pick up the cooler air nearest the floor and with a bigger filter on the intake. Big Smile

A good idea, but it'd be awfully restrictive to cables/airflow/harddrives if the tube was mounted at the front.

OOOOhhhhhh! I have a definate problem with that setup. Look at the fan setup in the case. There may be a chance of positive pressure inside the case, which will impede the duct airflow. Like the Harrier, a normal cpu fan does not have to worry about case pressure, it simply blows exhaust into normal atmospheric pressure. Shove a cork in it's butt, and it's gonna buy the farm.

All I am really trying to say is make sure you engineer this setup with a bias to push air out of the case and then it looks like a good idea.

The duct arrangement is a good idea. I bought one of these kits a couple of months ago (on super-special sale), but I haven't bothered to adapt it to the 92mm fan on the SLK-900A.

So why not? You could probably use a 80mm fan with the adapter and still come out on the cool side... Big Smile
