Check it out!
It's a Canuck band who are unhappy with the current situation in the NHL. The bands name is Relics Jetboat. Beachcombers anyone?
The lyrics:
Hey, Gary Bettman
Where’s the HOCKEY we ain’t getting’?
Come make the sacrifice
And get our boys back on the ice
Hey, HEY-THIS STINKS!!!
What would Foster Hewitt think?
If the season passes by
With no trophy held up high
Hey, Bob Goodenow
Ain’t 1.5 million good enough
Gotta make the sacrifice
And get our boys back on the ice
Hey, put on your salary cap
If you think it fits too tight – THAT’S CRAP!!!
Learn to share the pie we make
You’ll eat well with the slice you take
We want our home teams and our Stanley Cup dreams alive
We need to Lord Stanley’s mug, held up high…….in 2005!!!
DO IT FOR THE FANS IN THE STANDS
AND THE BOYS IN THE BAND
IF YOU’RE A TRUE CANADIAN, YOU’D TRULY UNDERSTAND
THE GAME OF HOCKEY FEEDS YOU WELL…DON’T BITE IT’S HAND
DO IT FOR THE KID WEARIN’ THE SWEATER WITH HIS HERO’S NAME
AND THE NUMBER ON HIS BACK…THAT’S WHERE THE MONEY CAME
DO IT FOR THE GLORY OR THE FAME BUT HEY, HEY, HEY…
YOU GOTTA DO IT FOR THE GAME
YOU GOTTA DO IT FOR THE GAME
YOU GOTTA DO IT FOR THE GAME
Hey, N.H.L.P.A.- what do ya say?
T.S.N., H.N.I.C., No Sportsnet on my T.V.
No Way- if you don’t play
So please come back A.S.A.P.
Hey, hey
We want our H.O.C.K.E.Y.?
Because HOCKEY is our life
YOU GOTTA DO IT FOR THE GAME!!! |

It's not looking too good. The collective bargaining agreement which ended the last strike (was it 1995?) ends on Sept 15, 2004. If there is no new agreement by then it will be a combination strike / lockout. The owners want a salary cap of some sort, and the players refuse to accept any sort of salary cap. It's a bit of stalemate for sure. |

Last year I paid nearly a $1,000 for 2 tickets each to 2 games. They were crappy
games, and I for one can live without for as long as necessary to keep prices DOWN. |

it is utterly ridiculous for the players to not want a cap just because it would keep thier ubserdly(sp?) high saleries from rising any further. But can't they see that that is what is killing the game. maybe thats just my opinion but if there is no hockey then there is no saleries. And the funny thing is the one team that seems to benifit the most from no cap (the detriot red wings) has the most outspoken owner in favor of a cap. |

The Rangers also have a rather high salary.
I don't know that any team truly benefits from not having a cap. Detroits large salary didn't help them through the second round of the playoffs. They got whooped by a team with 1/3 the salary and twice the luck.
The funny thing about it all is that the owners created the monster, and now the only thing that can solve the problem is if the monster agrees to lower salaries.
Who can hold it against a player for accepting some huge salary that is offered to them?
I agree with TOMax, prices are ridiculous. It needs to change. I definatly side with the owners on this, but I have to remind myself, that the owners created the problem. |

i agree with you too and the red wings could go out and buy the best avalible free agents i know that don't mean sh*t when it comes to the playoffs. i just meant they are free to spend as much as they want and thats what i ment by benifiting from no cap |
