Is it possible that I take all the parts out of a HP case, add some new cooling to the processor, and throw all the parts in a new case I get from newegg or somewhere? If I use the same PSU.

Sure...nothing is impossible. But the key will be if it will be worth the money and effort fer a corporate system... Confused

I'd shoot fer something made out of cardboard or wood...those are pretty cheap to get (free) and easy to work with. You just have to take yer time designing it and putting it together. Big Smile

Yeah sure, why not? People are under the impression that you cant run a pc without a case, or even with a different one, hell - i could run a pc off a wooden board stapled to my wall. The only thing you wanna worry about is if the PSU fits in place (why not get one with a PSU built in?) and the motherboard will screw in properly because if not, your gonna have to crack out the dremel!

Edit : Beaten by a minute - Damn you Bam!

Did someone call? Big Smile

Hope you recover from the beating... Shocking SmileWink Smile

It is well known that some corporate power supplies are not to the ATX standard. Plugging a standard ATX PSU into that mobo could toast it up pretty good. Sad SmileBlush Smile

Lol - Make sure you have the right voltage and wattage too. wouldnt wanna come under (or well over) the required ratings! Seriously though - Same PSU - you'll have no problem. Unless the cooling system needs extra power (i dont know about these things - im no overvclocker).

HP (and Dell) are notorious at times for using non-standard motherboards - often with daughter / riser boards to make things "fit" better. Take a close look at your MB before you make the move.

Another thing to look at is the front panel connector. Many propietary systems have them as one big block. You just have to figure out where the LEDs and switchs are.

The Asus A7N8X-E is a standard mobo and it came in yer HP computer? Did you get this comp directly from HP or did was the mobo squeezed in there? Shocking Smile

If this is the fact, then it should fit fine in another case since it's a standard ATX mobo... Double-check that PSU though... Shocking SmileWink Smile

I was actually thinking of doing this too. And the power supply problem stopped me. My HP has a Micro-ATX mobo which as I recall needed a special power supply ( but I may be wrong) plus it is ridiculously underpowered at 200watts.

I still sort of want to do it as you can get a new case w/power supply for like 20.00 at TigerDirect.

And the CD, DVD, and floppy drives might not have individual bezels, but instead one big piece of plastic on the front serving as a bezel for all. Not that big of a deal, though, besides the asthetic dilemna.
