Which would give me the most of a performance boost, an Althon XP 2400 (L2 256K, 2 GHz, overclockable) or an Mobile Athlon XP 2400 (L2 512K, 1.8 GHz)?
Next question: my current CPU is an Athlon XP 2000 (L2 256K, 1.67 GHz) and an Asus A7V333 mobo (266 FSB, 2 GHz CPU Max). Would the performance boost be worth the cash, or should I just wait and save my cash to build a new PC? |

I'd suggest the mobile athlon xp 2500 based on it's ability to OC with versatile FSB and voltage rates. The OC's on the mobile 2500's have been quite nice from the various articles I've read on them.
As for the second question, I'd say that you would more than likely notice a considerable improvement, but may still want to wait for a future upgrade. Major hardware releases set to come out should drop prices on some of the items currently out of your price range.
Hope this helps... |

The Mobile chip overclocks very well. The Barton's larger cache also gives it a slight performance advantage over the Thorton or Thoroughbred core of the desktop 2400+.

What are you doing that warrants an upgrade? Doom3 and Half-Life 2 aren't due out for a few more months. |

Yeah, that's what I thought. I suppose I'll just build a new comp soon and wait until prices drop before upgrading this one. |
