If anyone owns this hardware, can you please tell me how loud it is? My current Smart & Friendly drive is super duper loud & it's loud without the disc in there too! Also, what kind of discs do you generally use with the drive for good performance?? Thanks! |

Is it supposed to make noise!? Mine must be broken. [ ]
As far as what kind of disks to use, the kind of coating a CD has will tell you what it's life expectancy is. I saw a comparison somewhere once, but don't remember where. The cheapo CDs, although expected to last 10 years, can last as little as a few months. Let me know if you find a CD coating comparison.

These are all we buy at work, (I have one in my machine). In comparison to my HP burner at home, it's about the same. Fairly quiet.
These burners are not as nearly as loud as my Memorex 48x CD-ROM/Jet Engine. But, I don't notice it much with the 5 PC fans and the floor fan in my home office.
As far as CD's go, what ever I get on sale. the only CD failure I've ever had was an el-cheapo bulk CD-RW disc that I was using for daily large file transfers back and forth to work. But I attributed that failure to excessive scratches from sliding the disc in and out of a sleeve instead of putting it in a case.
If you want a name, I use Memorex, HP, Smart&Friendly, and Bulk commercial. But I highly recommend that you buy cheap. That way, if you screw one up it doesn't hurt nearly as bad.

Mine seems pretty quiet, I don't think I've even noticed it. Great drive IMHO.

mine doesnt make much noise at all except for my one at work which for some odd reason doesnt like CDRW disks. More often than not it will not recognize it and just sit there spinning up and spinning back down again. My one at home however behaves like it should, nice and quiet and fast. Mind you, ANYTHING I have is quiet in comparison to that Delta 7000rpm heatsink fan I am using.
I use 80minute Princo cdr and cdrw on account of their cheapiness.... buy them in spindles of 100 and just save all of the jewel cases that come with all t he PC mags I read
I gotta get me a decent Sig. |
