Don’t let its elegant and easy-to-use interface fool you. Beneath the surface of Mac OS X lies an industrial-strength UNIX foundation hard at work to ensure that your computing experience remains free of system crashes and compromised performance. With its advanced virtual memory, you don’t have to concern yourself over the number of applications you have open — just continue working. If an application should ever crash, the system’s memory protection prevents it from taking the rest of the system down with it. And the time-tested security protocols in Mac OS X keep your Mac out of harm’s way.
The most widely-distributed UNIX-based operating system, Mac OS X offers a unique combination of technical elements to the discerning geek, such as the fine-grained multithreading of the Mach 3.0 kernel, tight hardware integration and SMP-safe drivers, as well as zero configuration networking. Panther integrates features from state-of-the-art FreeBSD 5 into Darwin — the Open Source, UNIX-based foundation of Mac OS X — to provide enhanced performance, compatibility and usability.

So how bad due you want a Unix....errrrrrr....ops Mac machine......

What makes the Mac community fall behind even more is its slow computers...
Just look at this article comparing a 64+ Amd vs The new G5 computers...
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,112749,pg,8,00.asp
The only real problem with the test was they were running windows XP instead of Linux distro So I could really see the power of the 64 bit processor versus the G5 with a OSX. I bet the results in time factor wouldn't even be close running OpenOffice, Mozillia's Firebird and Evolution... I bet the G5 would have been dragging behind... The other factor I would love to have seen was leave the windows open and running in the background so we could see the lack of power the 1 gig of Ram would have provided based on the fact it uses some 64 bit processing and 128 bit processing.....
I've worked with both a G3 and G4 computer and let me tell you any time you have more then one window open its like sitting in front of a Pentuim 3 700mhz machine....
Remember just wait 10 seconds and the window will open.....

Gimme a MAC any day.

When preforming a task with high end graphics - or sometimes even mediocre graphics -
Illustrator CS has this spinning disc - that looks like a beach ball.
I personally think it is a hypnotic device stuck int here by ADOBE to brainwash us all.
It's working. |
