Help with NVidia drivers on mandrake 8 -small prob

I was following the mandrake 8 installation tutorial (as I got mandrake Cool from this url

It did work, but not the the extent I want. It seems to only work when I have "start x on startup up" off, meaning I have to login and type "startx" When I turn "start x on startup" on, the NVidia kernel drivers work, but the glide ones do not, how to I choose to enable glide drivers within X via terminal and how do I fix this problem on a longer time scale (ie forever)

Oi, what tha. Why wouldn't I!!!!
I want to have a graphical login screen with out the need to type startx!

A small misunderstanding:

change the 3 in a 5 in the line

id:3:initdefault:

in the file /etc/inittab

Still a problem, when I try to run tuxracer now, it seems to open, then have a really short beep as if the music is about to start, sit at a black screen for a bit then returns to X windows system

You had to edit a file (/etc/X11/XF..)

look at it and see if it has changed.It probably has, if so change it back

Still using nvidia drivers
only the name is in lowercase, ill change that and see if there is a diff.

When I tried renaming nvidia to NVidia, xfree wouldn't even start

did you install the Nvidia-GLX part. Did you remove the mesa-GLX stuff.
