In Win98, I was able to edit a reg value and make it so when I clicked My Computer explorer opened. I tried the same thing in Win2k, but it doesnt work. I mucked about a bit in the registry, but I couldnt get it to work.
Does anyone know how to do this in Win2k??
Thanks in advance...

Here's how.

Go to TOOLS-OPTIONS-FILE TYPES
Scroll down to N/A FOLDER
Click on ADVANCED
Click on EXPLORE
Click on SET DEFAULT
Click on OK
Click on CLOSE

Hey presto! The next time you double-click on My Computer you'll see the two-pane Explorer.

You're welcome.

BTW, the same method works under Win9x and NT too (with a couple of changes to the names of the menu options)

yeah I imagine it does work...
In 98 I edited the My Computer properties in the registry -- has the same effect -- but doing it in the registry allows for more use of switches and things like that.

I think wino777 is right.

I( and probably everybody else) want to know how you do it with the help of cracked .dll's

OK.. how about this. back on Win98, whenever i opened "windows explorer", it brought me to my "C" drive. now on Win2k, it opens up the "my computer" root directory with all my drives. how do i make it open up "C" on the left with all the subdirectories underneath it like in 98?

Change the shortcut target to this:
Code: Select all
explorer /e,c:\

Right click My Computer - Explore....

heheh...

BTW in 98 you can have Explorer open in My Computer by making a shortcut to explorer.exe and then in the properties dialog for the shortcut in the "Target" pane paste in the following exactly as it appears: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n, /e, ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}.

I always fire one of these into the quick launch bar for convenience. I haven't tried it in 2K yet though.

No, it won't work under Win2K, since Win2K installs into \WINNT by default. Change the shortcut to read
Code: Select all
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/select,c:\
and it'll work under Win2K. How do I know? I just tested it while writing this. [Wink]
