i havent installed Linux as of yet but i bought the Mandrake 8 box, read the manual front to back. What my question is: I know nothig about linux, never seen anyones pc with linux so im a full fledged newbie extreme, will i have any trouble installing linux on my system? i want a daul boot system with win 98. Here are my hardware items:
AMD 1Ghz T-bird 266fsb
Abit KT7A mobo
256mb pc133 ram
30Gig Maxtor 7200rpm HD
generic floppy drive
Asus TnT2 32mb video AGP
an ISA Sound Blaster AWE64 sound card
D_link ethernet card PCI
Epson printer
Logitech optical mouse
logitech webcam USB
standard win keyboard
Aopen 12x10x32 burner
does linux have all the drivers needed to install or will i have to dig ut all my hardware drivers? Oh i currently have win 98 installed. |

webcam are likely to have problems so i don't have much hope for yours(allthough the noise about it for the future is positive)

another question is: Is there a problem with running openGL games with linux? i've been reading posts by people who say they are having problems with their opengl games. oh and what about directX? I really want to just game with it, surf the web crap like that.

Surfing is no problem (except when you have a "software" modem or something weird, But than you have probably problems anyhow)
Directx, no but than again it isn't used for games on linux so that wont be a problem.
OpenGL. Installing drivers for your TNT2 shouldn't be a problem |

for 3d you'll probably have to download and install the proper NVIDIA drivers. Theses a full set of instructions on doing that on this site some where. |

I'd like to thank everyone who replied! And hopfully i'll get this bad boy goin. I decided to switch to Linux cause i hate winblows! Just hope its an enjoyable experience Thanks again. |
