the files for windows 98 boot screens are located in the windows or windows\system folder and are named logo.sys and there are 2 others, logo?.sys ? is some letter. Not sure if the gradient bar will work though. the logo.sys files are actually just BMP files, so you can copy them to a backup dir, rename them to .bmp, and open them up in ms paint to see which ones you need to change. If you need some help with it, just post/email me back, Ill find a win98 machine to work on so I can help ya out

Create a 16-colour 320x400 (yes, those are the correct dimensions) bitmap. Save it as C:\Logo.sys

If you want to change the shutdown images, edit C:\Windows\Logow.sys and C:\Windows\Logos.sys

nope, that didn't do it. No logo.sys except in the rescue folder. Tried adding one to the window folder and that didn't work either...

Ok, I got it figured out. 320x400 256colors rename from bmp to logo.sys. If you don't have that file there put it in there anyway. Put in cUndecided even if you dual boot and win98 is in d:

I have Win2k and crack, but also today just for fun i changed the boot logo on my computer downstairs (win98 SE)
and i found something interesting....

i knew how to change the boot screen from a long time ago in win98 with teh logo.sys and whatnot, but like i didnt see a logo.sys in teh c:\

however... i DID find a file called STRTLOGO.BMP or something to that effect, im not at home right now so i cant check (lan party at freinds house Smile )

when i looked at it, of course it was the windows 98 startup screen. i changed that file to a file i created. here are the specifications for making a win98 boot logo

the file MUST BE 320*400 resolution, it will NOT work as anything else!!!!

the file MUST be 256 colors, maybe 16 colors i dont know, but DO NOT try a 16K colors image, that will not work.

im sure thats the only two requirements...

now, when you have an image of your choice resized and the color changed to 256 colors, you need to rename it to a file called LOGO.SYS and place it in your CUndecided
if that doesnt work, try having both a LOGO.SYS and a STRTLOGO.BMP file in your C:\

thats what i did to change my logo today and it worked.

if even THAT doesntwork, paste the LOGO.SYS into your c:\windows\ and your c:\windows\system folders.

hopefully then your new logo will appear upon next boot.

and if you want to further customize some of your shutdown sscreens, there are a couple files called LOGOS.SYS and LOGOW.SYS (note: i am unsure if that is the exact names of both, but you should be able to find two LOGO*.SYS files somewhere) in either your c:\windows folder or c:\windows\system folder

these too can be renamed to .bmp and edidted to you pleasure. however i am unsure the requirements of these two files but i would assume they are the same.

hopefully my memory has served me right and this is all correct :)

anyone please feel free to correct me as

Anybody know where I can find some good win 98 boot logos. I know this place has a gallery for win2k logos. My art skills are not good at all, and I'd like to find a cool logo.
Thanks
Mike
