I am going to at least do that 5K next year, nattie, if not the half marathon. I've been hitting the tread mill pretty hard lately and have lost about 4 pounds the last couple of weeks so I'm getting there. I figure I'll stick with the treadmill through summer and start road work in fall.
BTW, did you notice that guy broke a record for the half marathon? Something like 1:08 I believe it was. He's a former Olympian. |

Maybe I'll take a trip down and say hi for next year's marathon. I'm not planning that far in advance yet though. As for 68 minutes...is that a course record? Because while it isn't walking, it's not a half marathon record. Not sure what it is now, but I know that Paul Tergat ran a 59:17 in 1998, and Ridouane El Harroufi ran 61:3~ (don't remember exactly what) about a month ago. |

I did a half marathon two weeks ago and had hurt my left knee... but i'm stubborn, and had to run the whole way Saturday, with a knee that started killing at mile 3 ... and finished unofficially I think at 4:28.... And now have to go to the dr. today... oh well... Thanks for asking though! Wouldn't mind chopping an hour off of that time for the next one! Nattie, does your last name start with an 'H'? If so, you finished 718th at 4:39. I assume it's you since there was only one Natalie (sp?) in the race. If that's you, did you race with a relative by the same last name? Because he finished 1 second behind you.
If you ran a 4:28 with a bad knee.........that's an impressive time (to me) even if you didn't have knee problems. Good job, nattie! kinda creepy having a groupie isnt it |

His name is Phillimon Ranneck and it says that he was ranked twice as the worlds top runner by Runner's World magazine. It's not a world record but an event record. He said he was shooting for 63 minutes.
The full marathon winner was Scott Colford with a time of 2:40.11 (WOW ) which was his second straight MB marathon win. The top woman, names Christine Rockey, finished in 3:4.35. |

Marathon was made by Peter Paul. It never had peanuts in it and it was pretty long by the candy bar standards back then. It was a chocolate covered caramel bar that was about 12" long... I don't believe they're made anymore...
Snickers is made by Mars... |

I stand corrected...
I guess Snickers bought out the Marathon name...
The original Marathon bar was named as such as it would last a long, long, long...time.
Kinda like this thread... |

Quote:America's Marathon Bar is not to be confused with the Marathon Bar sold in the United Kingdom. Britain's Marathon was a chocolate-carmel-and-peanut product sold in the United States under a more familiar name: Snickers.
In 1990, Mars decided to change the Marathon's name to Snickers, the world's No. 1-selling chocolate bar.
But Mars didn't want to lose the candy bar's British fans. So for 18 months, the candy bar's wrapper sported both the Snickers and Marathon name, the latter in smaller type. Then the Marathon name was dropped. Snickers/Marathon went from the UK's No. 9 candy bar to No. 3. |
