This is not just panther.. i'm running 10.2.8 (not too sure about prior versions) and you can drag your disk or applications folder to the doc it just has to be on the same side of the seperator as the trash can.
then you can either click on it and have finder open up that location or hold down the mouse button and it will display the contents in the doc.. quite nice actually..

click and hold brings up the contents of the folder as a menu. that's what i do with my Applications folder. that's my primary program launching method. it takes a few seconds, however for the list to come up. which is annoying as all get out.

If you're like me, you probably can't stand the one button Apple mouse. I've always used a PC mouse with 2 buttons + scroll wheel. Scroll wheel works fine and does what it's suppose to nicely.
Have you ever had a Finder window open with so many files and some weird icon arrangement that makes both vertical and horizontal scrollbars in the window? The scroll wheel on the mouse will scroll vertically just fine but doesn't horizontally, isn't it annoying to have to move your cursor and manually scroll horizontally?
Hold down the SHIFT key and then use the scroll wheel. It automagically scrolls horizontally the same way the scroll wheel would for the vertical scrollbar |

verry nice trick... thanks for sharing.
here's one.. but only for people with panther.. there's a hidden expose feature.. well not really a feature but it looks like something apple used for testing expose..
% defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-floater -bool true
then
killall dock
will give you a blue expose blob..
Hold option-and-click = expose all windows
Hold shift-and-click = expose slow motion.
if you want to change the blob to another image
System > Library > CoreServices > Dock.app
Open Package Contents then go to:
Contents > Resources
and look for:
wvousfloat.png and wvousfloatselected.png
Replace it with an images of your choice. Make sure it is in the same file name |

Yes it is a built it behavior. OSX supports event messages for right clicks and scroll wheels, even 3rd party apps can capture and handle them.
I like this a lot. In Windows, we can sorta do the same thing, but we have to first put the cursor over the horizontal scroll bar then spin the wheel to scroll horizontally. Not sure if it works with all horizontal scrollbars though. |
