fire up your software update (GUI or CLI, whichever you prefer), Java 1.4.2 and Safari 1.2 have been put up for download.
Safari finally has more keyboardability support which i'm excited to check out. has anyone installed these updates yet? |

Is Panther required for Safari 1.2? I remember 1.1 being Panther only as it ships with the Panther install. |

yeah, it's a panther only install.
some notes about the installation: once it finished downloading it ended the safari process i had running without asking and then required a reboot (that might have been for java though).
html rendering seems to be lightening fast. you can now tab through most widgets in safari, though tab order is a little off, but maybe that's how this "Post a Reply" page is set up. i'm actually surprised to see you can key through drop down menus, that's something you can't key through in most other OS X windows (though i read that may be a difference between carbon and cocoa widgets; how one would know which one an app used is beyond me though).
unfortunately, i think konqueror still renders pages better then safari, and has for quite a few months now. i hope apple migrates some of these changes into their own source tree soon.
as far as java goes, it seems to be working fine as ever. i don't run applets or java programs too often so i guess i can't really comment on that too much. |

I am still having JAVA issues in chat - I thought Ed was looking into it -
It isn't anything serious- and it may just be my machine and want for more memory~ |

Can you tell me if it's possible to pick and choose which domains to accept cookies from (like how Mozilla asks for every cookie but remembers the decision)? If it's possible with this new Safari, I just *might* upgrade to Panther.
Side note: some one emailed me regarding a post I made a long long time ago in the macosx.com forums. We got into talking and now I feel like making an OSX come back |

no I meant the Java version. 1.4.2 is latest from Sun and fixes a lot of problems. Certainly does on the M$ side of things. |

Lycander, why switch to Safari? Why not just use Mozilla in Panther? (I do, and no problems yet) |

1. Middle mouse click doesn't open links in a new tab like it does in other OSes. Heck even Safari has this feature. And yes I did buy a different mouse to replace the one button... sorry I was trying for some clever description of the Apple mouse but I got nothing. This is great for when I browse the forums and open multiple threads at the same time.
2. Was too slow in every which way. (Firebird doesn't quite feature match Mozilla yet so I haven't bothered).
3. Font rendering not to my liking. But then again NOT one single web browser for OSX has font rendering to my liking.
4. I've tried Camino (that uses Mozilla codebase) and that too has some features I miss and font rendering is poor. |
