Hey guys, I gotta lil' q for ya guys.
I'm looking for a backup soluiton for Win2K. It's for my home box, so no network stuff is needed.
Here's what I look for (specs/must have):
Free adjustment of image size (splitting)
Job sceduling (daily/weekly/monthly)
Disc to Disk backup
Full W2K compatibility (NTFS 5)
Easy to use
I tried Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 (no good for home use, too huge(sp?) I have enough to do at work, but no tape drive at home),
PowerQuest Drive Image Pro 4 (only images in emulated DOS mode; needs reboot, no backup on running boxes),
Norton Ghost (see above)
NovaDisk 6.6 (backup files fix splitted after 530 MB; if not I'm too dumb too find the option to set the file size for disc to disc backups - point me to it and I'll stick to it)
Saegate Backup Exec 7 (pffff),
several shareware backup progs.
Anyone has suggestions? I am willing to try.

Please forgive any msispellings. As you might have read my post here you will understand as the six-pack is long gone and the cli's also

do you have network storage available for the backup image someplace ?
you might want todownload the demo of ImageCast and see if that's what you're looking for

I don't know if dd (the cygwin version) works in the same manner as it does on *nix and BeOS but if yes than
splitting yes
Job scheduling Is something the os should do
Disc to Disc yes(if you mean i had a 10Gb disk, i copy it over to a new 10Gb harddisk, will it work, yes)
Full w2k compatibility Yes. dd doesn't read the filesystem but the harddisk itself. Doesn't matter which filesystem is on it
Easy to use what is easier than the command-line (if you have a good shell that is) |
