well, i finally got one while i was in Toronto, now I need some help on overclockin (in comes smokin). Anyhow, my mobo is an a7n8x non-deluxe model, and I've got Corsair CMX256A-2700C2 ram with spreaders. Anyhow, some info on multiplier and fsb would be appreciated. Just using stock cooling for now, so not sure how high I can even go...thanks ahead of time. Very Happy

personally, I would be scared of OCing (even a little bit) with stock cooling.

depends on the stock cooling... I have a stock duron 850 heatsink and fan on a 1700+ and it runs at 40C with the processor at a near constant 80%.

I wouldn't OC until you looked at the temps with it normally.

got it to 3200 but was unstable. also flashed the bios (board is older revision (pre 2.0)) up to 1.07. Anyhow, currently at 2500 for now. Tried aggressive settings with 12x multiplier and 195 fsb, and 1.775 vcore (based on something I'd read about someone else's overclock) and it worked for a few, but then blue screened. Anyhow, anyone know what the settings for 3000+ are? I know it's supposed to be using a 13x multiplier, but the bios only goes to 12.5. I don't even know what clock speed the 3000+ is supposed to be...(don't mind me, n00b oc'er).

Uh, just go back to 200 FSB and a Mult of 11 with the 1.775 vcore. That should work dandy.

Then back the vcore down as much as you can with it still being stable.

Boom, instant 3200+.

I run 4- 2500+ @11X200=3200+ with stock cooling. 41-43º C. Running SETI 24/7. The max die temp is 85º C for Barton core processors > http://139.95.253.214/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=100,E=0000000000124374691,K=1385,Sxi=13,Case=obj(1224)
AMD has really improved their stock cooling with larger HS and copper bottoms.

I must have the worst luck when it comes to hardware and oc'ing. I tried running at 200x11, and it began to post, but blue screened. I bumped the vcore up to 1.8, then 1.825 I think it was, and blue screened both times, so then I said fug it and went back to stock for now. Try again later.

It may be your memory causing the problem.

Perhaps. I've got it overclocked a little right now, it's running at 2040 mhz, so that's good enough for me. Just under 2800+ speeds, so I can't complain. All I wanted was to make it a significant jump from the 2200 I already had.

Good job!!! Smile I'm a Noob too. And didn't want to get into buying gigantic HSF to increase the speed a little.

didnt amd lock their cpu's recently? so stable overclocking is virtually impossible now?

locked the multiplier, not the fsb. so i left the multiplier at 11, and changed the fsb to like 185 or something. It's pretty stable right now. Only problem I'm noticing, and not sure if it's even related to the oc, is that I've started getting run time errors on some websites, but other than that, everything is fine.
