|
I'm about to build a 'file server', I call it that, but I have no idea if it will actually serve any files. I wanted the comps on the network to be able to see the drives on this server when they click My Computer. I will be using WinXP Pro on all but 1 PC. That PC has WinXP Home.
Is this possible? |

Map the network drive to a letter. Worked for me in win2000. |

Works in any MS OS from Win 3.1 upwards. Map a shared directory to a drive letter. |

I Mean That You Can See More Drives Than Are Physically Present Inside Your Computer.
There Are Twenty-Six Letters Which Can Be Used. Some Of Them Refer To The Drives (Hard/Floppy/CD/Etc.) Which Are In The Computer. The Remaining Ones Can Be Used To Connect To A Shared Directory On Another Computer.
Any Drives Mapped To A Network Share On Another Computer Will Appear In The List Of Drives Just Like The Local (Inside The Computer) Drives.
Launch Windows Explorer. Click On Tools - Map Network Drive. Pick A Spare Drive Letter And Type The UNC Path (\\Server\Share) To The Shared Directory You Want To Use. |
