Ok, I am having another problem with my RAID. When I boot up my b0x, it goes through all the posts then gets to the MegaRAID check and it will hang there and not do anything. It just says that its Scanning for Primary IDE Master or some shit like that. This only happens when I initially start the machine. To get past this problem, I just hit the reset button and then it will detect the drives and such. I cannot turn the machine off, then on again with the power switch, I have to hit the reboot button to get by it. Any ideas?
Im running an Iwill KA266-R, AMD 1.33Ghz, 40gig WD 7200rpm and 20gig WD 7200rpm (both on RAID, not arrayed together). |

My guess is that the Controller is failing to recogonize the drives. I have a MB that fails to see the cdrom randomly on boot. Try changing the cables and make sure the are secure. Also I remember something about speed and a PCI setting in the bios... HUMMMMMM
Good Luck, cause thats all I can think of..

I would also consider checking if your power supply is to blame. It sounds like the problem might be your drive(s) failing to power up in time for the RAID controller to poll it (them).
Try disconnecting your CD ROM/CDR drive(s) and any other easily disconnected sources (extra fans, etc). Try cold starting and see if the system works properly - if so, your power supply is not coping with the load. If not, I would suspect a failing drive.

on older machines, if you get a problem like that (not neccesarily with radi), you can set a "ide detect delay" (somethine like that) for the bios, because the harddrives could start&spin up fast enough for the bios.. dont know if that has anything to do with what you have, just a though..

Are these drives in a RAID array? or are they just on the controller... oh ya check for a firmware upgrade |

AHHHH!! I think it is my power supply. I am here watching the hardware monitor and the Vcore all of a sudden jumps up to 3.71 and then back down again. I tried unhooking all unessential parts and still had the same boot problem. I have had a couple of freezes now as well. Heat might be an issue, but I am not sure, we have had some very hot days here where I am. Though, once I test another 300 watt power supply, and find that that is the problem, im dropping 115 bucks on a 400 watt full tower baby...mmmm...any suggestions on what exactly I should get for a tower??

Oh, yeah, the drives are arrayed, but not together. |

Ok, I just tried a different power supply and got the same problem with it hanging at the MegaRAID detection. So I am certain that its not the powersupply cause I used a brand new 300 watt AMD approved one with minimal things hooked up. Any other suggestions? |

ya doesnt really sound like a power issue, check on AMI's site for an updated firmware..
I guess you could also try the controller in another pci slot if you can..

didnt know you had the iwill board, though it's still a controller, you can get a raid bios update from iwill's site and ami's site.. it might fix it.. many people have updated the Highpoint controllers so far on the other raid boards.. well again my .02cents (yes too cheap to shell out an actaul penny)
