hello, my nt4 machine gave me a message saying something about a memory dump error message...now i can't start up w/o getting that message. Is there a way to fix this problem w/o reloading the OS??

Try using the 'last know good boot' menu, or booting in VGA mode. You will need to check any software you installed or modified recently, which could be causing the problem.

Other fixes include removing NICs, peripherals (printers, etc), until you can get the system to boot.

Yes there Is some fixes to this problem that I have worked with. One of the options Is by reseating your processor and your ram. Thats normally a first step. Then If that dont work try booting with the vga option at startup instead of the regular nt option. And after getting In reinstall your video and hard drive controller drivers. That works almost 80 percent of the time. :)

Hope that helps. l8r

Removing the NIC(if you have one) is proboably a good idea - i had the same problem on one of my NT machines, apparently these memory/core dumps can come from bad ram/cpu/NICs and even HDs - so i guess it could be both hardware or software...

Good luck finding the prob..

I hand made my own stop code chart, though it has some specifics to my job location. I think I had about 20-30 of the most common ones written up, with descriptions of how to fix them, gave it out to new team members.

There's actually quite a bit of useful information in them. Somewhere there's a m$ article that gives the full skinny on how to read them, it was mandatory reading for our unit.

May there always be a road...
