has anyone ever had this problem ?
you turn off apm in the bios and all of a sudden your nic can't "figure out if it's connected or not"
i turned of apm because it was messing with BeOS (i think it was a peculiarity of my board and be and the wake state being passed thru my kvm)
boot back into Win2k, and all of a sudden my friggin Nic can't stay connected to the network for more than 1/2 a second
then it keeps jumping back and forth between "connected" and "not connected"
i had something similar happen once with my BP6, but a couple of cold boots cleared it

when it "disconnects" does your link light stay on?.. I dont use BE, but do you notice if when its not connected, that youre nic isnt "recognized"?..

maybe i didn't explain very well
the nic worked fine in Be (like it always has)
it was in win2k that it was acting all F*'ed up with APM turned off
no, the link light would drop off when the NIC decided it was offline
i tried it in every slot in the switch, and then i broke out a 2nd switch and it did the same thing, so i'm 100% sure it was the machine and the only 2 changes i made (to help be out) was to stop caching the bios, and turn off APM

Shoot me for not finding the link on M$'s site, but I do recall them saying that you have to install using one or the other (APM on or off), and that you cannot change back on one of them.
I believe you can still fix yours by first turning ON bios APM, going into Control Panel and power management, disabling it there, then turning it off in the BIOS.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the info Shrew
i just decided it's easier to remember to turn apm off when i want to go into BeOS, and then turn it back on when i want "win-derz" :-D
