...a very quiet socket 7 fan.

Looking for a quiet xp3200 fan also, not as essential.

Cheers.

PS Anyone know any good, cheap (like the budgie) sound proofing techniques?

Earplugs.

An SLK-700 with a 70mm TMD fan provides an excellent noise vs. performance ratio, while still being fairly cheap. I have this particular setup in my HTPC. An SLK-800 with a Thermaltake Smart Fan 2 gives you great performance at high speed but a smidge noisy, at low rpms it's very quiet and still cools fairly well, this is the more expensive option, but also the most flexible depending on the environment your computer is in. I have this setup in my server and a similar one in my gaming rig, substitute fan from CoolerMaster HAC-V81 heatsink.

Hard to beat this Panaflo Fan (92x92x25.5mm 2850 RPM 56.8 CFM Model: FBA09A12H1A) on a Thermalright SLK-947-U - our XP3200+ (an overclocked XP2500+) is currently running at 96F with a case temp of 87F, and it's whisper quiet (can't hear with my ear up to it) - wBig SmileBig Smilef!

Turn the volume knob all the way up; guaranteed to prevent background fan humming.

Papst fans are the classic stand-by fans, but they might not provide the performance the newer ones (like the Panaflo) do. I use a Papst in my desktop and Vantec Stealths in my dual-proc server, and they run at respectable temps and are virtually silent. Of course, it's a 1900+ and a pair of 1600s, so....

Papst makes a great product, no doubt about it - would be nice if they were a little more availible over here - wBig SmileBig Smilef!
