True, but the mainstream operating systems can only handle 2G per program. Or even less. And the operating system is why you need 64 bits because an OS could be made that lets a program use more than 2(or 4)G

Yes, but all applications will benefit to some degree. Your comp will run faster just by installing a 64 chip. To truly benefit, software would have to be rewritten.

On another note, would you have to buy a new mobo to use this chip? If so, what are some of the mobo's that are compatible?

Yes, you would have to buy a new motherboard. Cant cram 700 some odd pins into a motherboard with 400 some odd holes.

Those sound like betting words to me!

Can I wait until Socket 939 arrives and drops in price?

It's tempting to build a powerful little µ-ATX Athlon64 (Socket 754) KT800 system now, but we all recognize that AthlonXP 2500+ on NForce2 is still a much better bang for the buck.

$404 Athlon64 3200+ 2GHz Socket 754 (OEM)
$ 14 Coolermaster SK8-7I53A heatsink & fan (This is the only one listed. I'd prefer copper.)
$106 Gigabyte GA-K8VT800M KT800 Socket 754, µ-ATX
$ 90 512MB PC3200 Corsair Value Select CAS 2½ unbuffered, non-ECC

$753 Athlon64 FX-51 2.2GHz Socket 940 (OEM)
$ 14 Coolermaster SK8-7I53A heatsink & fan (This is the only one listed. I'd prefer copper.)
$213 ASUS SK8N Socket 940, NForce3 pro150 (Sorry no single-socket boards are available with VIA chipset)
$318 2 ea 512MB PC3200 Registered ECC Corsair XMS
