We all hate our pc's at work.. Mainly because my company wont let us install a decent os for our job..
So cygwin was always the answer.. now i saw something today in which really stood out to me.. You can install NetBSD inside cygwin now i can have a bit more fun at work..
http://www.bluedonkey.org/cgi-bin/twiki/bin/view/Netbsd/CygwinBuild
though i'm 100% sure this doesnt compare to a real install but it gives me the tools which i need. |

I think they describe how to build NetBSD in Cygwin. Not run it.
But you could try uwin, the unix stuff from windows, the unfinished line (as in wine) or http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/netos/xen whenever they will run on windows |

I love my work. Not only are our Notes servers running Suse, but our desktops and laptops will follow suit... all with our managers approval Now all we have to do is convince the Domain Admins to switch to Linux... and then we work on the Tech Support guys and get Linux as the standard desktop.... Muhahaha. |

Soup, so you hate the hardware because managment chooses the software??? Just razzin' you... Anywho, the company I (currently) work for could give two cents what our NOC staff run. Mainly because all of them choose a *NIX or *BSD so, they really don't have any recurring costs in software. Most of the laptops or desktops they buy come with a copy of 2K or now XP, so if we do need it, it's there. With the latest outbreak of worms, however, it's more of a PITA to keep up on patches than anything else...
IAmMaurauder, I guess I don't understand why companies pay for server licenses with OSS. I can understand "support", but ummm, if you can't find an answer to it on the 'net with Linux then I guess you shouldn't be runnin' it in the first place... We just have customized Debian distros on all of our hardware. Much to my dismay they moved away from FreeBSD as platform of choice a couple years ago. Main reason: lack of support for NSS on FreeBSD. Today it's much better, but... Too late now! |

I want my work pc to be as pig ugly as possible. The more attractive it is the more likely people will want to use it. |
