Subject: Re: help LM80 and Creative Labs TNT

Greetings, Ruben.

A problem has been discovered recently with the 1251 drivers and some
TNT
cards; it sounds like you're hitting that bug. We'll have this bug
fixed
in the next release; in the meantime, I'd recommend using the 0.9-769
drivers. I believe the ftp site is down, so I've attached the 769 tar
files.

Sorry for the problems,
- Andy Ritger

Excellent post...I know there have been quite a few people asking me questions about why the TNT cards didn't work and I could help them...now I can.

You'll have to be more specific than that, some background, info, specs would greatly speed up the helping process:-D

You are probably not loading some kernel-modules

I have a Geforce2 gts 32 meg from creative labs, sound blaster live, abit kt7a raid motherboard, 512 megs PC133 SDRAM, an Athlon 1000 @1400 MHZ, 3com 905b NIC, running Mandrake 8 with Mandrake Freq, Nvidia 1251 kernel and GLX, to use the 3d (2d works fine) I have to go to run level 3 and from command line do a "make" on the GLX then startx and my 3d WORKS, but if I reboot I lose 3d capability =no games work. BUT if I go to command line and repeat the "make" for GLX I get 3d back. Now, is ther an easy way to fix this? please email me at ap90033@earthlink.net

Need assistance:

I just followed the procedure on LWD for installing the Nvidia drivers on LM 8.0 - I got no errors during the installation. However, when I type startx from the console prompt, I see several lines scroll by, and I then boot immediately into X. I do not ever see the Nvidia logo (I remember when it came up on my RH box - I'm not seeing it here).

As a newbie, my questions are this:
1) How do I verify that I (*sorry*) installed the proper version of the kernel?
2) How do I capture the text that scrolls by when I issue the startx command?
3) (somewhat unrelated) My display does not center on the monitor - it is wrapped slight across the right edge of the screen. I can run xvidtune and shift it left, and I've gotten the following info from xvidtune:
{snip}
"1024x768" 65.00 1024 1072 1216 1344 768 771 777 806 -hsync -vsync
[end snip]
I'm thinking I can add these to my XF86Config-4 file, but I'm not sure where.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jonathan Shay

xpdyinfo from a xterm
look for NVidia

startx &> bootuplogNVidia
But it will be the same as the /var/log/XFree(something or other).0

put it in google. there are millions of XF86Config-4s on the web. Those will show you where to put it
