Hey guys, it's been a while. Been really busy at work. Anyway, I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I have the abit BP6 with dual 500's. Yeah I know it's a little outdated...still a decent machine for my game though. Anyway, I have an add-on card maxtor PCI UDMA 100 card and I have 2 hd's. One of them is an IBM 20gig Deskstar the other is a Maxtor 40 gig. I want to make sure that I'm getting the UDMA enabled for my drives for fast access. Under the Hardware properties The add-on card is shown as a SCSI device, HOW DO I CHECK TO MAKE SURE I'M GETTING MY FULL THROUGHPUT? |

What OS are you using? The only reason I ask is that apparently it's a real biznitch to get UDMA 66 or better to work with win2k. I have a Maxtor 40GB as well, and I still have no clue as to wether it's 33 orr 66..tried a couple of registry fixes that I got off of www.tweak3d.net that are supposed to enable/disable under win2k.

That link is a good reference for tweaking your memory and hard drive under win2k. Of course, if you don't use win2k then this entire message is useless to you (although you can find some other cool tweaking/customizing stuff at that link).

Sandra does in fact work on 2k. I have it loaded on both of my 2k machines right now. :-D

Also... to answer your original question, I snagged this from the Sandra Q&A Page on disks/cd-roms.
Quote:
Q: How do I know what ATA mode my EIDE disk is in?
A: Firstly, update to Sandra 6.40 or later. The buffered/burst read speed should tell you that information. Thus:
Over 66MB/s -> UDMA ATA100
Over 33MB/s -> UDMA ATA66
Over 16MB/s -> UDMA ATA33
Over 6MB/s -> UDMA

Yes, SP2 does fix it. I had a noticable improvement.
