Is there a way to tell if better cooling, such as a peltier will allow me to increase the fsb more than with just a golden orb?

Right now i have a celeron 600@900 it will go to 927 stable but i don't like the temps. After that it won't post. I want to hit 1 gig. [ Very Happy

Hmmm... not sure about better cooling system, but if you move to Arctic like me here. I'm sure you can get higher FSB than what you get down there...

BTW, let me show you my interesting result of SiSoft Sandra with my highly overclock Athlon.

I guess what i want to know, is the price of a peltier worth the gains i might get? Confused

well, if you go with a low wattage TEC and a good heatsink, you will get some better performance. I say low wattage because the current heatsinks have enough trouble as it is removing heat from the CPU. If you want a good performance boost from TEC's, you'll need to goto water cooling, which costs a bit more.

I am/was/still am putting together a water cooling rig, but I've been a bit sidetracked these past few days/week with school. sigh, I'll try to get the thing done at the end of the week so I can finally post more pictures.

)but i did get the pelt-water working and with awesome results.
My Plll slot1 550@733 ran about 105°F with a golden orb. After i installed the works i got it down to -5°C I had a thermal probe from my MB and also a net nurse (i think thats what it's called) measure the temps. Both were within 1°C the temps were taken as close to the core as i could get. I do believe the probes were touching the edge of the processor core.

So my answer to your question is[b]YES[/b]If you are into extremes and can keep an eye on things it is worth the hassle! [^]

After further reading and the fact that the gains in clock speed doesn't seem to justify the cost or commitment.I'm gonna stay aircooled. Cool Smile

Kryo tech SUPER G has a refregration unit under it and cools the computer along with the cd

Well I am going to stay air cooled because it is cheaper for now!! I mean you can get a fan for a buck or two and you can load your comp. up with fans for about 10$!!!!

I had an Alpha PEP66T cooled pelier on my Celeron 566, and it was well worth it IMHO. Aircooled(Just the Alpha) I could run it at 850, but sometimes I would get temps as high as 59C!! With the peltier I could run at 935 with a max temp of about 35C. The way I look at it, the cooler your processor runs, the longer its life should be. My Duron will only run stable at 950 with the peltier, and 900 without. I usually run at 900 with the peltier, just cause then my temps never get over 20C, and that is the way I like it. Just so you know, my peltier is rated at 94W@16v. It is only running at 12V so it will be a lower wattage.

My main concern is the moisture that can build up under the cpu. that is what scared me away from a peltier cooler. I would like to keep it as maintenance free as possible. Big Smile

Where are you getting the power to run your peltier? off the power supply unit?

Yeah, I just run it off of the power supply(300W). You do have to insulate it, but if you do a good job on that, it is maintenance free. I used old mousepads, which are made of closed cell foam. I cut a square that perfectly fit in the bottem of the socket, under the processor. I actually had to push and hold the processor while locking the lever on the socket. I then built up layers of foam for around the socket/cpu/peltier stack. You do not have to worry about insulateing the heatsink at all. Anything on the hot side of the peltier is plenty hot.

The way I look at it, if your not supercooling, your temp gradient between the cpu and the ambient air is only going to be around 10C(My processor usually runs around 7-13C below ambient). With the insulation in place, there is really no concern. If I ever get off of me lazy ass, I'll get some pic's of it all and post them.

I got my peltier from a local store (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), and although they do mailorder, it is probably easier for you to get one in the states(Or whereever). If you want to check them out it is http://www.firestorm.ab.ca

If you have a Socket with that big ole hole in the middle of it you can safely fill it with silicone.

where do you get thoes KRYOTECH cases???
the techclass in school has twoof them for all i know but their not very talkative and i don't think they like mi very much so they don't answer mi questions
all i know is they have them running very cooled.
