For your information i have five PC's all on a standard Ethernet network, they share a cable modem internet connection through an HPNA card that connects to another computer three stories up. It is not feasible for me to run cat5 to that room. I don't feel like explaining anymore details.
Take your "tech support" issues and go FUCK yourself.
I don't even know why i dignified your post with a response.:double_finger:

gateway sucks
HPNA sucks
airline food sucks :ahhhhh:
my job sucks :ahhhhh:
Hey Random,
have you considered getting a wireless nic and access point for the comp upstairs and then connecting your access point downstairs right into the LAN ?
i was just asking because i'm pretty sure you'd be able to research ahead of time for a wireless nic/ wap that support linux
it'd cost you a few bucks, but you'd be able to run linux upstairs

I have looked at that a little but i have not even considered that configuration. If it will work i would only need one wireless nic.
That is a great idea Brain.:pimp:
Got to look into this...

Don't you mean two.
Also keep an eye on security with this |

2 only if he was using ICS directly from another machine downstairs
1 and a wireless access point to plug into the network downstairs the way i described
security is a possible issue . . but it's not terribly bad now
most crackers try industrial parks, and not housing areas

I can't find any info about that config. It looks like the WAP would need to be at the location with the cable modem. That would mean either two nics @150+ each plus the WAP. i had no idea this stuff was that expensive.
