disk drive craziness!!

has anyone ever experienced this with Win2000. I stuck a disk (zip disk or 3.5 disk) in the drive, the computer reads the files. when i take out the disk and stick another one in, it reads the same stuff? i've even tried to copy the files and it still works?!? this thing bugs! is there a fix available?
