Well, here's another head-scratcher:
Several clients have Linksys BEFSR11 routers connected to SouthwesternBell DSL using PPPoE. (My home also HAD one until this problem appeared)
Problem:
Browsing works fine, incoming mail is fine, outgoing email and VNC connections completely fail. Upgrading firmware, factory resets, etc. did nothing to cure the problem. The only way to fix it was to replace the unit with a different model.
One location used a Netgear router as a replacement; I used a Linksys BEFSX41. Both solved the problems.
Both of the sites referenced above HAD been working fine for over 1.5 years with no hassles. Once this brewhaha with the worm hit, THEN all hell broke loose.
So, what I can't figure now is why this particular model of Linksys isn't talking to SBC DSL anymore. Of course, their tech support reps have been oh-so-helpful (read as, I have yet to get past a first level tech, but I'm not giving up)
I'm going over my records to see if I have other clients using this model router, and if so, if it uses a static IP or PPPoE.
Anyone else run across something like this?
TIA
