alright, i recently had a problem with my cable modem/router. well i got that all cleared up, and i have another problem. the problem used to be that the internet would stop working, the lights on the router, the lights on the modem were fine, i'd reset the modem reset the router, and nothing. it was like that for all 3 computers on the network. now every day or so my internet stops working, and i have to do a windows xp system restore to get it working again. the other computer on the network is fine, it works. i have zone alarm running all the time, and i just scanned for viruses via antivirus.com. just removed all spyware via adaware, and spybot.
i am out of ideas. i dont know if someone is attacking my machine
my box is up to date via windowsupdate.com.. but for some reason i am forced to do a system restore everyday.. in order to get the net working again?
any ideas?? |

Have you tried going to DOS and doing an:
IPCONFIG /RELEASE
IPCONFIG /RENEW
Might help if your dealing with a workstation issue. |

yea, i did that and it would fix the problem for a little bit, then the problem would come back..
i used the repair feature on xp, and the ipconfig switches
there were so many problems with my system (ati mmc didnt work, internet problems, directx problems ect..) i just decided to re-install windows. while re-installing windows i accedentally installed windows to my d drive, the drive that has all my music, and since i formatted it all the music was lost. i got 200 of the mp3s back, but thats only 200 out of 2000. i'm still upset about that but my mmc works, directx is working and the internet has been working good so far. |

It might not be your PC it could be the router itself.
try updating the firmware if you have not done that in a while.
Example: I had a linksys and that thing would freeze about once or twicce an hour.
i would have to unplug or reset the router sometimes to clear it up. firmware did not work for me so i eventually bought a new router (D-Link DI-604).
Problem gone. |

we have the dlink di604, and the problems really started right after i updated the firmware
hah. however the other machines on the network would work, and mine wouldnt.
so i boiled it down to my pc. |
