|
Hey all. Using a computer in the local library. They've got a system set up so that each time a computer boots, it restores itself to a pre-defined state (so any software you install or files you save are gone after a restart).
Not sure what method they're using to do this.
I would like to be able to book from a floppy disk, but it won't let me. I can go into the bios and make sure that the floppy drive is the first boot device, but the coomputer seems to ignore these settings.
Can anyone help me accomplish this? Only clues I can offers is that there is something called "RealTec RTL8139 Boot Agent" listed in the startup post screens. OS is win98. There are HDs in each desktop (I can hear it working).
thanks! |

I suggest you have a word with the staff in the library. They may be able to help you.
Alternately, you could stop trying to fuck around with a computer which is meant to be available for everyone's use. |

Well said Demon. |

Unless you are looking to get the big boot out of the library I would follow sir Demons advice. |

FYI, I'm sure that whomever manages the network here has this set up to simplify his/her job. However, the people working here don't seem to care if I mess around and try to do this. They offered to help, but like I said, most of 'em don't know where to start. It's not like they won't be able to reset the computer's state when I'm done.
So blow me, all. And after you do, be sure to give your mom a deep wet tonge kiss before you brush your teeth.
BamZipPow-
Thanks, but I don't think it can be a boot from LAN setup because it doesn't matter whether the LAN cable is plugged in or not at bootup. Gotta be copying the system files to the visible "C" partition from a hidden partition on the disk. I have never seen a bios that can reset itself every time the computer boots, but it does seem like this may be the case. But if this is the case, how on earth would the administrator ever make changes to the pc? Anyways, perhaps it's good time to resign from this thread and let Demon and the rest of the dung beetles get back to their meal. |

He he. That was fun. Pretty good come-back. I like it.
And although I have some knowledga of what you're up against I will not help. You see: I actually agree with Demon. And these forums are not haxor/scripting blah blah. Perhaps you should fare better at such a sight. And I'll leavy you with a small tip: asking guys for blowjobs is NOT a good way to make friends.
Good Luck
