I'm worried this 300W Sparkle won't provide enough juice for an Athlon (a new PS ain't in the budget) ... what are you all using

I have a 300W, but I have a friend that is running a T-Bird 650@800 with a 250W with no problems. It really depends on the rest of the stuff your planning on running. If you have six hard drives, 3 CD-ROMS and 12 fans, I would recommend you upgrade. If you are a little more normal, you will be fine. I have 3x20GB 7200RPM hard drives, 8X DVD-ROM, 4x4x24 CD-RW, 92mm fan, 80mm fan, Delta Black Label 60mm fan all on my Powerman 300W psu, and I have never had a problem.

Don't try feeding a TEC from that PSU or you will run into serious trouble.

Nope. I was running a 250W psu on a celeron 566@1020 with a watercooled peltier. I smoked the psu in a big way. It was a pretty cosly f**k up. There were actually flames coming out of the psu, luckily I was there when it happened. Anyways, fried the psu, melted the side panels of my el-cheapo case, and melted the plastic case of my abit slotket that I was using, which fried the slotket. It was a bad day indeed.

Don't run a peltier as well as the rest of your system off of that power supply.

TEC= Thermal Electric Cooler.
Freezes on one side and will fry an egg on the other.
Awesome for cooling a CPU. I had one running with a self made water block to cool the hot side of the TEC and was running it on it's own 250W PSU.
They consume a LOT of juice that why the need their own Power supply.
Thats what it is Guy

Best way to do it is get yourself a special TEC power supply like the SEC-1223 from Overclockers Hideout. Produces 23amps@13.8V.
Your TEC (peltier) will love that much!

But will fry your beloved CPU in the wink of an eye if your heat dissipation unit (most common seen with a peltier is water cooling) fails. Heat on the hot side is not dissipated - hot side gets hotter, the effect is turned over... and BOOM! add +60°C to your overclocked heat monster.... Welcome to BBQ!
Friend of mine was gone for the weekend - he came back late sunday evening and his box was toast. The TEC had generated enough heat to melt his socket, fry his motherboard and took the RAM with it (the last one seemed to have died by a short generated when the motherboard went dead). He couldn't even tear the TEC and the CPU apart as it had baken together.
He was lucky that his appartment didn't caught fire.
Cause: The waterpump decided to quit service.
----
OTOH you will have to avoid evaporation on any electric parts otherwise.... bzzzzzzzt!

I trying to get this straight so bear a moment
when your trying do this super cooling you could use water cooling, with a waterblock or on top of that you can put a peltier in between and get better cooling..what i just said is right, wrong??
