Everytime I try too turn my computer on the hard drive starts clicking and will not detect it at all. Is there anything I can do too save the hard drive or is it just trash? Please any suggestions will help.

Have you tried Knoppix?

Its a bootable Linux that runs off the CD. When it loads it may mount the drive and you can back up the data. But I dont know whats wrong with your drive, sounds like its knackered to me Sad

Sounds like you've let the magic smoke out of the drive.

Try the ol freezer trick. Put the HD in your freezer for a couple hours and then stick it back in your machine. If you can mount it, back it up straight away cause sure as shit its gonna go south again. If you can't mount it..... I don't know what to do.

Does anyone know where you can download the program called Knoppix? I would like too try that to fix the HD problem. Does anyone have a old 2 GIG hard drive laying around?
