I don't know about AMD chip sockets but on my Abit BP6 mobo the sensors are inside the socket hole and I had to bend one of them up a little because it wasn't making any contact at all and was like 10 degrees lower than the other sensor!

Maybe that's where I heard it. Although I am pretty sure I heard that the AMD chips do not have on die sensors. I don't know for sure though. I am an Intel kind of guy.
