Am I the only one that has to run the XP Network Wizard 400 freakin million times before two boxes both running XP will talk to eachother?

Actually, what's worse than that is the fact that I could get them communicating well enough to be able to send/receive "net send" messages through the command prompt, but other than that, they don't know the other computer exists.... no matter how many times I try to set up the network. They both connect to the internet through the router, both have all the protocols installed, I can connect to the other comp through command prompt, IP addys are fine, I disabled all firewalls, the winXP standard firewall, one comp was running Norton Firewall that I turned off completely, and I turned down every setting on the internal firewall on the router. I even tried using different work group names to make sure that the "wizard" was actually making the changes.

And all I want to do is share the printer!!!! <GRRRRR!!!!> I could care less for the file sharing part of it.

help...?

I had setup my network settings by hand. Then it tells me in order to enable File Sharing I have to use the Wizard. So I did. It TRASHED my settings. That's the last time I go off to see he Wizard.

I had the problem to, the way I got around is to set it up manually. create a shortcut to the computer on your desktop then open it and mount the printer. It works for me and I can't see any of the computers in the Network neighbourhood.

i belive you need to have a share enabled on an XP computer to even "see" the other computers on the network....

i have XP, 2000, and osX networked together here.. never used a wizard... and i works fine.

if you right click the printer... choose shareing... click 'i don't want to use the wizard" and then choose the radio button for "just enable sharing"

should work fine.
