ok, my new hard drive is installed
I have a problem though, hence this post...
if I copy a (.)wav file from my old drive to my new drive it takes about 3 times longer than normal, and during the copy process, my computer feels like a 286 machine and if I try and move the mouse around it is very unresponsive and jerky.
then when the copy process is over, if I play the same wav file from my new drive, (using WinAmp) the audio sounds choppy every now and then and is totally unacceptable (audibly) for me.
I spoke to a few friends about this and one thinks it could be just a common problem with Windows drivers and running 2 drives.
I have an Intel chipset and he said if I had a VIA chipset then there were patches for this apparently common bug/problem.
The other friend thinks it could be an IRQ issue, but in device manager there are no IRC conflicts.
a) has anyone else had this?
b) suggestions on how to fix it? |

I'm guessing its a windowz machine.
is DMA enabled?
how is your machine configured?

Those Intel IDE drivers can cause problems. Try changing the drivers to standard IDE drivers and see what happens. You can still set DMA on them. I've seen them cause weird problems before. Anything from not seeing DVD burners to games not installing right. Changed back to Standard and all problems gone. |

run SANDRA on both drives and post the results if you can, (Sandra may even offer a solution after the tests that will fix the problem).
I am curious to see what the results from Sandra are.

I was trying to figure out the problem, what i think is going to be the problem for me is i have the new drive in NTFS format, and the old one with the XP OS is in FAT32. I couldnt find any way of changing my IDE drivers? Could some one send a link to standard Intel IDE drivers. I hope this solves my problem and his
