I have Quake2 running under LM8 now (about ready to toss W2K) ... I can't get rid of the mouse cursor (it's sitting right under the crosshair) ... anyone else here running Quake2 with a NVIDIA card in Linux

Congrats Squito...are you using the new NVidia drivers for LInux that you pointed out to me? Nice catch on that by the way...NVidia still hasn't put those up on their website for the public to see though, not on the driver page anyways.
Go to http://www.lokigames.com, somewhere on that site I read a fix for your problem.
I'll be trying to get QIII working here next week, and UT so wish me luck.
Oh by the way, how was the NVidia driver install? Pretty sweet with the NVidia logo isn't it?

Haven't tried those yet ... I see they have been updated to version 1.0-1251 already ... the new ones are on Nvidia's ftp site ...
ftp://ftp1.detonator.nvidia.com/pub/drivers/english/XFree86_40/1.0-1251
... Q3A should be a piece of cake for you ... I don't know anything about UT on Linux ... good luck with that ... maybe you could include the UT install in your article too (hint-hint) ...
P.S. Almost forgot ... thanks for the lokigames link ...

Do you need special linux (or BeOS) versions of the games, or will the Wintel version do just fine, even under linux (or BeOS)?

I don't know about BeOS, but for Linux you can buy a Linux specific version or use the Wintel version with a Linux installer program you can download from LokiGames.com. The current version of the installer is also the 1.27 patch, but you'll need to download the 1.17 installer/patch first. There are extensive instructions on the aforementioned website that should answer any questions you have.

I'm a little bit puzzled. With that installer prog do you mean this "Loki Demo Installer"? As I get it this is used for installing DEMOS from the lokigames website. No talking about porting Wintel games to linux...
What did I miss?

I don't know what you missed. Simply go to the QIII section and download the 1.27 patch and the 1.17 patch. Install the 1.17 patch, then copy some file off the wintel cd and viola it's supposed to work...read the FAQ for better details.

you use the windoze Q2 cd and a file you download to setup Q2 under BeOS
i don't remember where i got my file originally, but i DO know that you couldn't download it directly from Be anymore the last time i went to do so
i had to get it from another site
anyway, you run this file from a bash shell under BE, and it extracts the Be install crap to run it
then you run one of the files that was etracted, and tell it where your cd-rom is and it'll extract the artwork and the osunds and everything from the windows CD
been a while since i've tried it, but i'm sure you could find the info if you hit google and searched for BeOS Fansites |
