This 3-14V, 12A power supply is just $168. It has significantly less capacity than the other one and lacks constant current control and precise meters, but it might be able to get the job done. |

I guess it's all going to depend on what the voltage/amp requirements of the 172W peltier you have.
Here's a buying tip from our friends at Overclocker's... |

Good suggestions, Bam!
Something like this HP6628A would be cool. With a GPIB card and cable, you could program its output from your PC. |

Did someone call?
Looks like the best thing to do is do some research on the various power supplies and learn as much as you can before you jump out there on eBay and get something. At least you'll know if you have a good deal or not and if it will meet yer requirements, too! |

This unit seems to be pretty good. It's 24V and 10A fer the output. Not bad fer only $30 if you choose the Buy It Now option... You can always squirrel the voltage down as needed. |

This unit seems like a good deal but you'll probably have to battle it out with others until it goes way beyond yer budget... |

This looks like a nice compact unit that might fit inside yer case without any problems...
And that seems to be a great price at only $149 for the Buy It Now and $9 fer shipping... |

The last two don't put out enough current, Bam. He probably needs about 14V and 12A for that Peltier. There were several suitable power supplies listed on E-Bay this morning. Most were between $50 and $250. |

12A!!? Dang... I guess I'll just stick to something simple. BTW, how much energy are people putting into their cooling these days?? |

He's using a largish Peltier, rated at 172W. You can see that Swiftech uses a 12V 25A supply with their setup: http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcw5000-PT.asp
Some Peltiers work better with more than 12V. A variable power supply would provide the most room for adjustment. |

I think the best way to to cut down on the research time is to vist http://www.hardocp.com
go to the forum section and cooling. THey have a very list of links for extreme cooling and plenty of people there that have played in that area. |
