ppl tend to fear what they don't understand. wireless is great when the proper security measures have been taken. once you've used wireless you'll never go back!

An infinite number of monkeys pounding away on keyboards will eventually produce a report showing that Windows is more secure and has a lower TCO, than linux.

Yes, if I weren't getting married next month I'd be buying a wireless router now. They just had a Linksys (I believe it was) router on sale for 69.99 after rebate at Circuit City. Put that together with a wireless pci card for 39.99 and you've got a whole network for 110.00. There were rebates involved, of course.

If you're hesitant about going the wireless route because you don't know much about... start by at least reading the first half of this article:

Go for the Wireless Router if you have a Laptop. Just make sure you read some articles on securing it. It's not really that hard.

If you only have Desktops, then just stick with the wired router. There really wouldn't be any reason to get wireless. Plus it's cheaper. Cheaper router and cheaper NICs. Plus it's also faster.

Wireless is also good if you dont feel like tearing up walls to run cable.

I'm a cable runner in the house...but wireless was pricey when I did it.

Plus, I had easy access to the floors via the crawl space.. Its nice to have ports all over. To bad I'm a dialup-user and its sooo slooowww

True that, True that!

I always forget that. See my father and 2 brothers are Union Electricians. Free cable runs. Ok not really free, it usually costs me a few beers.

FYI: When running cables always run a string with it. In case you need to run another cable. All you have to do is attach the cable to the string, and pull! That's my tip of the day! Very Happy

I just have wired right now, but I'd like to get wireless for my laptop. Funds are a wee bit tight though.

Here's a cheap wireless router with Wireless card. After rebates it's $69.00. Plus the router has 3 ports.

SMC Barricade™ Turbo 11/22Mbps Auto-Sensing Wireless Cable/DSL Broadband Router

SMC EZ Connect™ Turbo 11/22 Mbps Auto-Sensing Wireless PC Card

I have everything wired I can, but there's no way to pull a wire to the other side of my apartment without putting holes in the wall and running it outside. Which, this being Maine, isn't such a good idea since I have no control over my heat (the thermostat being downstairs). So right now I have a line I can run all the way across my apartment, but my kitten likes to play with it so I don't actually run it that often.
