I need some advice on fiber optic wiring, doing some quick searches on google but not finding anything that really helps me out.

We have a fiber optic line running out into our 2nd building, but I need to know how to hook it up with our existing network. So far, it just kinda "exists", as it were. I have no prior first hand experience using fiber optic.

I was shown how to terminate once in my Network Structures class. Do you have a port for it on one of your routers.

I would try and search Cisco's site. They might have something.

Well

1. get equipment Cisco products are the best for what your trying.

2. You going to have to know what your trying to accomplish.

Such as is the fiber the backbone of network running from one closet to other closet.

3. You have to state weather your using both fiber and cat 5.

If so what is the projected out put of the system.

Such as
pushing 1 gigabyte worth of data through the backbone.

and
push 100mb to each computer.

But you must understand that
if you plan on having 1 gigabyte data to each computer your going to have to have a router and even a switch possibly that can support this much traffic handling.

Know if this is a small business or less then 400 computers onsite then there is no real reason to run 1 gigabyte output to the individual computers.

The best way to learn this is to take Cisco classes 1-4.

But just remember this...

There is going to be bottleneck somewhere in network that will slow it down.

One of the biggest bottlenecks will be the service the company is using such as
T1 lines
cable
T3
Dsl
adsl

But the bottum line to all of these communication types is cost vs need.

That actually isn't a concern. It's wired from our main closet to the second building with fiber optic, and both buildings have cat5 wiring for the PCs. I just don't have any network out in the other building because right now it is one PC and the fiber optic while running from one closet to the other, isn't connected in either.
