I have partitioned my drive on 2000 and want to install all programs to the D: drive by default without having to change the path from c: to d: each time I install a program. Is there someway to do this in the registry?

I highly doubt it. Even if there was a setting for that, I'm sure NOT ALL installation routines would use it.

you can run an installation script instead of just installing from cd.

i'm not going to tell you how to write one because there's WAY too much crap you can do (or that you can to screw up and kill your OS)

look over at some of those pc mag websites (or zdnet) for an exact explanation of what the diffrent sections are for (that way you can't blame me when it hoses your PC Black Eye Smile ?

I'm not sure what the registry keys are for W2K (i'll look tonight) but on Win9x if you modify "hkey_local_machine",software,microsoft,windows,currentversion "ProgramFilesPath" and "ProgramFilesDir". Both should = "D:\Program Files". This should do the trick. I would imagine that it's much the same on W2K. I did test on Win9x and it does work for most apps that I tried.
Very Happy

If all you're after is changing the default path for the program files location then download Tweak UI for Win 2k. It will not only let you change the path for the program files via an easy to use gui interface but also a lot of other system/os locations as well.
