And, I will be bringing more boxes online with F@H, so we should be overtaking MacNN sooner, rather than later.. |

I suppose i could have edited the cell formats to include commas, and change the date displays, but if you note the time I posted, it was awful late last nigth, and i didnt think of it.
If you'ld prefer I'll change it to include commas, and if anyone would like some other stats, I'm kinda having fun playing with Excel doing this...
(anyone know how to do auto modifications to compare rankings?) It takes a lot of work to adjust all the formulas by hand when someone joins or passes someone...?
Maybe have a separate column titled (if this person moved up one/ down one?)
And a method of automatically populating the fields w/ data would be good, maybe a macro? (I've never messed w/ macro's but i'm willing to learn)

Quote:(anyone know how to do auto modifications to compare rankings?) It takes a lot of work to adjust all the formulas by hand when someone joins or passes someone...? ! If it's an Excel spreadsheet, you can do an alpha sort (two separate tables independently), then you only have to deal with joins, which is considerably less often than those moving up/down in rank. Write a formula to compare names from one table to the other, e.g.,to make finding them faster. You then insert a row for each new member, and move everyone in that table up a row. Once they're all lined up, re-sort by current ranking as a single table. |

Making everything run perfectly without constant manual editing is rough. You can probably cover much of it with Excel, but there will always be something. We use a php-mysql backend, and it does run unattended on the server.
But it takes 8,600 lines of backend processing code to do that, and a very few things can still mess it up. If the page output code is thrown in, that adds another 10,000 lines.
Welcome to the stats game, Toast. Be a little careful, it is all too easy to get in over your head. Next thing you know, you no longer have any free time, and work on nothing but stats. My stats have eaten over a thousand hours of my free time over the past year, and I hate to think of how much money I could have made during that time. Have not watched anything on the TV in months.
Your tables are very decent for spreadsheet stats, I started there too. Welcome again, and good luck.

My current system involves me copy/pasting the team stats page from Stanford into an Excel SS.
this has 2 areas (old stats and new stats) then to the right i have a logical check to see if the name is the same in both places in line. If not, then it tells me "Changed" and it brings my attention to that area, for manual adjustments... When someone changes position I have to adjust their formula to F3-F4 if they moved up in order to have the numbers to come out right.
Also have a simple F3-B3 sort of function to see what change in score has occured, (this is actually 2 lines, one for WU's, the other is for points)
I also have another logical check to see if the person has been active, with a SUM function to give me a total number of active members. (I also have SUM's set to show me team totals for WU's, and Points)
Reader50, thanks for the words of warning.
TOM, I'm not sure i understand your suggestion [???]

Quote:TOM, I'm not sure i understand your suggestion [???] I've done it so many times, I may *forget* to mention a step...If you sort both old and new tables separately by Dog name, they will line up on the same row with very little effort. Then you don't change any formulas, as long as a cruncher is always on the same row. Then re-sort the 2 tables together by ascending Current Rank (or descending Total Score, same diff)Sort-> (A) (B)
Sort-> (C)
|--------- Old Table ---------| |--------- New Table --------| Rnk
Rank User Score WU Rank User Score WU Chg
47 Dog1 35 12 45 Dog1 46 16 +2
46 Dog2 37 14 46 Dog2 43 16 -
45 Dog3 38 14 47 Dog3 40 15 (2)
55 Dog4 31 10 48 Dog4 34 15 +7
.. ... - 0 49 Dog5 32 13 *NEW* What you're doing, essentially, is joining 2 relational databases, and inserting rows for records that didn't exist in the old table.
In the Monthly Bath, it cut my time gathering stats from 3 hours down to less than ˝ hour (typically with more than 30 new members in a month). In the Gauntlet race, it cut the time from an hour gathering down to few minutes - |

Ok, so you're saying have 2 separate spread sheets, and sort by name, so they will be in alphabetical order, then do a check to see if the rank is the same or not?
could do a simple function to show the change in position... and simply add a blank line for noobs... I think i got it...
Gonna start playing again now...
I'm very receptive to any suggestions (I may not understand, but I'll ask...)
BTW, think this'd be a good stat to add: Pts/Day? I think it'd be interesting....
