Its hard to save the right sort of bmp file, I too had problems with it when using picture publisher to convert and save the images. With thumbs plus it worked!

the file size should be 150k

The same people who use wite-out to correct mistakes on their computer screens! ;0)

Hey! Here's a question...how do I tell if a picture is too many colors, short of trying it? Does MSPaint offer any abilities to tone down the colors?

Got it to work. Had to extract all the files out of C:\WINNT\Driver Cache\i386\sp1.cab to a temp file, replace NTOSKRNL.EXE with the "edited" file and repack the cab file using CabMan2001. Then copied the "edited" file to c:\WINNT\system32\dllcache and c:\WINNT\system32. Didn't have to touch the registry at all, and it works fine. Should help anyone with SP1 (I hope).

Hello Everyone

First time posting. Thought I would post my bitmap that I created for the win2k startup screen. Mostly aimed for the Star Trek fans. BTW, the instructions on how to modify the start up screen are great. Very easy to understand. Also, I do have windows file protection on and it has not replaced the modified file.

Hey jf2y, i'd like to see your pic..can you post the link to it? Geocities does not allow off site linking like that. Try just posting the link. [8D]

My first posting anywhere, anytime...

Great instructions, Sir Spot!
Lame as I am, even I got this to work!

I don't claim to have an impressive bmp like the others here posted, but here's my attempt.

Use the "insert image button" (it's just to the right of that e-mail button) and just stick the link to your pic in there ...
