what exactly defines the position of the bar-thingie? I've tried to make the following pic the boot up screen but all I see is a black screen and a white bar in the bottom part of the screen that tells how long to wait till win2K is done booting.

Your problem might be that your pic is 800 x 600 and it needs to be 640 x 480.

ok I have w2k with Sp2.. now I have done all the steps to change the registry to desable file protection. after rebooting I try to replace the file in system32 directery but w2k restores the file. any idea I even delted the keys in the regitry but w2k still replaces the file!! AHHHHH Sad I guess w2k is one bad sone of_____

We never tested this method on a machine running SP2. Will give it a try tomorrow and let you all know if we can make it work. [Wink]

thanks guys. I have went to the website you guys learned how to turn of the file protection. and every time I try to change the Dword Volue in goes back to 0. even trying what MS said like putting in 2 or something. still goes back to 0 for. I guess Sp2 doesnt want to u to turn it off. but thaks guys for trying. dima@lentner.com

It worked great!!!... I re-enabled the file protection after I was done and rebooted....it stayed there....cool!

no matter what picture i use...even the ones from this board, they come out all garbled.

Any clue as to whats going on?

I found that the second palette entry determines the color of the progress bar.

Here's my new startup screen (jpeg screwed up the colors slightly):
(The text on the cycling bar, also "rotates")
